The National Cooperative Housing Federation of India (NCHF) was established in the year, 1969 as an apex organization of cooperative housing sector. Its primary objective is to promote, coordinate and facilitate the operations of member organizations and housing cooperatives to enable them to provide affordable houses to their members. In pursuance of its objectives, NCHF has achieved substantial progress in the growth and development of housing cooperatives. The State level Apex cooperative housing federations (ACHFs) are members of NCHF. These ACHFs are engaged in channelizing long term housing loans from financial institutions to both the affiliated housing cooperatives as well as individual members for the construction/financing of dwelling units in their respective States. NCHF has been organizing need based training programmes for upgrading the knowledge and managerial skills of the personnel of housing cooperatives so as to enhance efficiency in productivity. It undertakes research studies and compiles data/information; brings out important publications on cooperative housing and related fields; organizes seminars/conferences to discuss various problems faced by housing cooperatives; and provides guidance to housing cooperatives on general insurance of their properties against various perils at reasonable premium. It also publishes a monthly journal called ‘NCHF Bulletin’.
